php and css

so, i know quite a bit about Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), but practically nothing about php. this blog uses a template to give it its look and layout. i spent the better part of the day designing the CSS and the images that go with it. i also tried to play with some php files because i want my links on the right to be divided according to some categories that i’ve defined for the links, but that will have to happen another day because everything i tried tended to end in errors. sheesh! then again, i really like that my blog looks unique and i am sure enough time on the WordPress support forums will get my links fixed. all in due time.

well, i just checked my admin files for the themes and there is weird code everywhere. apparently, i did something wrong. i guess i’ll keep this theme as long as it works for you, but i’ll probably spend another day soon just trying to figure out what i did wrong and how to fix it. fun times ahead. ;)

i still haven’t fixed the weird code; however, i am finally getting the categories of external links to appear with the correct links below them. of course, the font is messed up and i can’t get rid of the long list of links that was there originally, but i am making progress. slow progress and a lot of trial and error, but sometimes that’s the best way to learn . . . though, i have no doubt it also hampers many people from even trying to begin with.

i just figured out more by fiddling with the index.php page. now, all that’s left is the font on the links, but i imagine once i get rid of nested lists, the problem will fix itself.

i just fiddled with the sidebar.php file and figured it out. i love when my trial and error finally pays off. ;~)

i also figured out that my weird code on an internal page was due to improper line endings. it was easy to fix once i knew the problem. whew!

    Hey sean…

I was going thru your post on the WP support forum and saw that you had a problem with 404 pages for any clicked links (comment/categories/even the post-title). (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/37873)

So I checked out your site (nice job btw) and noticed that you seem to have fixed the problem.

Dyu have any pointers for me on how you dd it??

    Thanks in advance.
