I have pmwiki in my toolchest of stuff I've considered, but I haven't tried it. I really wanted to have my wiki act just like Wikipedia, but the negatives are just too plentiful. It works great and I have a lot of control over the content, users, etc. It's great. You can see examples <a href="http://itls.saisd.net/km" rel="nofollow">here</a> and <a href="http://mguhlin.net/share" rel="nofollow">here</a>. I would just ditch your MediaWiki install unless you're prepared to update and patch it on a regular basis.
